Maintaining Your Barcode Printer
The best time to learn preventative maintenance is NOT during a crisis. At the time of installation, Barcode Southwest will work with you. We will teach simple preventative maintenance steps.
Three Barcode Printer Components
Maintaining your barcode printer on a weekly basis can take care of the three components:
- Printhead
- Platen Roller
- Sensor
Without a clean printhead, your label images may lack the “crispness” needed for readability. Also, sharp lines for barcodes are a result of a clean printhead.
A dirty platen roller can result in a misfeed and eventually, an error message. Chemicals and paper lint can make the platen roller “slick.” This can lead to a loss of production time.
The sensor (green plastic part) is a small, but powerful component of barcode printers. The sensor finds the gap, notch, or black timing mark between labels while calibrating. A clean and properly positioned sensor can eliminate feed error (see above picture).
