Label Materials for Hot Environments
Label materials for hot environments are crucial to label longevity. If your product labels are not legible or scannable, your product may not sell. Barcode Southwest recommends synthetic labels for a hot humid environment.
Synthetic Label Material
Heat and humidity are a way of life in the Gulf Coast states. To work with these environmental factors, synthetic label materials are recommended.
There are two types of synthetic label materials:
- Polypropylene, or BOPP
- Polyester
Synthetic label materials are known for their moisture and chemical resistance.
This material resists heat and cold.
The Polypropylene, or BOPP material will prevent labels from ripping, tearing or smudging.
This durable finish provides an excellent surface for the ink to adhere. Labels will maintain bright colors. An attractive, legible material can help move product.
These labels often have a high-quality glossy finish.
This durable label material images very well in thermal printers using thermal transfer or direct thermal.

Label Materials for Cold Environments
Many labels are not not capable of withstanding exposure to prolonged cold. Cold resistant labels (Polyester) are recommended by Barcode Southwest. These labels are best used when a product will be exposed to or stored in cold, even below freezing environments.
