Barcode Printer Label Problems
Trouble-Shooting Tips
Every Houston, TX barcode printer and label application is slightly different. We will discuss how to diagnose and solve problems when you are experiencing barcode printer label problems. Barcode Southwest offers three quick trouble-shooting tips:
- Label loading
- Ribbon loading
- Label Calibration
Improper Label Loading
It may seem easy to load the label and ribbon rolls. However, there are a few tips to keep in mind.
Your first tip begins with loading of your labels. The inside back panel (see above image) of your thermal label printer should have a picture of the label feeding path. You should also find “How To” installation videos on your manufacturer’s website. Barcode Southwest has found these videos to be the best resource for those times when your are having barcode printer label problems.
The first step is to load your roll of labels on the label hanger or media HUB.
Your second step is to follow the label feeding path.
The third and final step is make sure you feed the labels through and not over the green sensor. The labels should then lie over the platen roller and the printhead must be in locked position.
Finally, press the “Feed” button to advance to the next label and you are ready for the print job.
If your printer is not set up to use a thermal transfer ribbon, skip to the calibration step.
Improper Ribbon Loading
In the event you are using ribbons, the first step is to ensure you have the correct pairing of ribbon and label material. Barcode Southwest can help with this pairing to avoid having barcode printer label problems.
Your second step is make sure the printhead heat setting is where it needs to be to insure a quality image.
“How to” videos are also available on the printer manufacturers website as reminders for those times when you are having barcode printer label problems.
Calibrating Your Barcode Label Printer
If you are having “Feed Errors” or the imaging is skipping labels, try calibrating the labels.
The purpose of calibrating your media is two-fold. First, calibration measures the thickness of your media to improve imaging. Secondly, the printer must sense either the “gap” or the black mark that indicates the break between each label. The “gap” is a timing mark that tells your printer when to start and stop printing each label.
Calibrating your labels is a “quick fix.” Search the Menu on front of printer and select “calibrate label” function. Printer manufacturer “Menu” selection may vary. The printer will feed several labels searching for the “timing” mark. This should help stop most “Feed Errors.”
